Chinese Bhel

A delicious mix of fried noodles, crunchy vegetables and sweet and spicy sauces; Chinese Bhel is perfect to enjoy as a snack.
This Indo-Chinese appetizer is just like the restaurants or street vendors; yet super easy to put together in under 10 minutes.

  • In a small bowl, add all the sauces and mix. This mixture can be prepared and stored till is time to serve.
    ¼ cup Schezwan Sauce, 1 teaspoon Vinegar, 1 teaspoon Soy Sauce, ¼ cup Tomato Ketchup
  • Chop the vegetables and set aside.
    ½ medium Onion, ½ medium Pepper, 1 cup Cabbage, 1 medium Carrot
  • When ready to eat, take the fried chow mein in a mixing bowl.
    2 cups Fried Chowmein
  • Add shredded cabbage, carrots, onions and peppers.
  • Also add the sauce mixture. Season with salt if required.
    ½ teaspoon Salt
  • Mix everything well and serve topped with cilantro and green onions.
    3-4 stalks Spring Onion, 2-3 stalks Cilantro

Notes

  • Ensure all the vegetables are either shredded or chopped thin. We want it all to mix like a bhel.
  • All the sauces we use have a lot of salt. So only add salt if required; after tasting.
  • Chinese bhel is best enjoyed fresh after making. It tends to get soggy quickly.
  • Add finely chopped green chili for more spice.
  • To make ahead of time, prepare the sauce mix, fry the noodles and chop the vegetables. Simply assemble prior to serving.
  • Add more vegetables or balance the sauces based on taste preference.
